oak bark ink

Why not oak gall ink? The marble gall wasp andricus kollari wasn’t introduced to the British Isles until the 1830’s making sourcing oak galls quite an effort for an insular scribe and since tannins can be extracted directly from oak bark the wasp is an unnecessary middleman. In this page I’ll record my experiments with ink using oak bark, ferrous sulphate and cherry gum as a binder.
